Fabulous home away from home, By margaret, 11/07/2010
Barbara's Budget Guesthouse ticks all of the boxes - it's close to town and the markets, and is the best-value, quality, budget accommodation that I've been lucky enough to discover in Byron. I've stayed with Barb on several occasions and have enjoyed every moment - her studio is clean, secure, surprising well-priced, and really comfortable - great queen sized bed, books, videos, electric blankets, air-conditioning, plenty of hot water and a bath. And Barb herself is a dream hostess - she's there when you need to ask questions, is an absolute expert on what's on/what's to see in Byron, and makes me feel right at home. Ten out of ten from me!

Its exactly what it says.
What a great place and very special lady who owns it. Nothing is too much trouble, its like home away from home, clean friendly and a great place to be a so close to everything. Thats why we are booking again. Roll on the holidays.

Just what we needed, Dec. 2009
We had planned a three week trip around the east coast of Australia to include a few nights at Byron Bay over new year. First piece of advice, if you're travelling over the holidays - book early. Looking about 2 months in advance we thought we were never going to find anywhere and have to re-plan the whole trip. We eventually stumbled on this place on the internet and booked the studio suite. The location was great - just a 2 minute walk into the main street in Byron and all the bars, shops etc. A pleasant wander down the main street brings you to the beach. The house itself was on a quiet residential street which we were really grateful for as it was very busy and noisy in the town at night. You enter the 'suite' from the veranda of the main house so completely separate entrance. You enter into the bedroom which I think had a king bed. Bedroom led through to a little living room with kitchenette and then on to the bathroom. Living space had a (very small) TV. Kitchenette had a decent sized fridge, kettle, tea/coffee making supplies and crockery. The whole place was VERY clean and tidy, not massive but much larger than a standard hotel room. The decor was rather dated (ie pink bathroom suite) but in a kinda of cool shabby chic way. There is air conditioning only in the living room but you can leave the bedroom door open so the cool air flows through. We found it mostly ok with just the fan in the bedroom though. This little place is a real gem. We paid 200 AUD a night (room only) which is VERY expensive but still considerably cheaper than other places at this super peak time of year. I would hope prices would be more reasonable the rest of the year as the place doesn't quite match the luxury price tag but it was just what we needed. Would definitely recommend.
